Will short term car rental including car sharing become the preferred choice of transport over taking train and bus journeys post lockdown.  Possibly, think many in the industry, fears over virus spread on public transport is fuelling the opinion that car sharing and short term rentals may grow exponentially post lock down.

Signs of this trend are already being seen in China who emerged from lockdown earlier in April.  Young professionals are seeing car sharing as a safer alternative to public transport and many car sharing companies are forecasting a strong growth in second quarter revenue.

Any companies hoping to get their rental vehicles on the road through short term rentals and car sharing will have to make sure they are investing in cleaning their vehicles and strict hygiene is being followed.  Customer’s will want reassurance they are safer in the rental car than on the bus or train to justify the additional expenditure in their commuting budget.
